2025-11-08.2_intersectionality and liberation
intersectionality is and should be a method of liberation.
elaboration of the (pedagogical) purpose of the use of is and should be: i use is and should be to attempt to convey two significant, dialectical realities: 1. that intersectionality already is (is as in is in the process of becoming) a method of liberation. in that it is contributing significantly and concretely to the liberation of oppressed and marginalized aspects of the world (including people, non-human animals, inanimate aspects of ecosystems under attack, etc.). 2. that there are also non-negligible cases where intersectionality is used in ways that do not contribute to liberation, and in those cases it should be a method liberation, but isn’t (yet).
these two realities are dialectical because they are present with/in and interact with each other. there is especially no case where reality 1 does not also contain some aspects of reality 2 (otherwise it would not be in the process of becoming). therefore the special significance of mentioning both realities often when co-creating discourse about intersectionality. so that it will continue to become a method of liberation, and not a method of stasis and (c)overt oppression.
